Experimental reintroduction of Montserrat's Critically Endangered mountain chicken frog

A site in the Adopt a Home for Wildlife initiative of UKOTCF & Montserrat National Trust is also an experimental location for reintroduction of 'mountain chicken' frogs - whose survival is threatened by an introduced fungus. Our video describes testing the experimental manipulation of conditions to help the frogs overcome this. The latest news since this video was made is that, in July 2019, frogs have arrived, so we can see how the test works. Read more

UKOTCF expects to make a submission, based on the information & views of its network working across the UKOTs & CDs (although the latter are not included in UKG's Call, as UKG does not support those). UK Parliament inquiry on invasive species

The UK Parliament’s Environmental Audit Committee has launched an inquiry looking at invasive species, including across the UK Overseas Territories . The inquiry closes on Tuesday 30th April 2019. More Read more

Parliament publishes report of Inquiry into UK Overseas Territories

The House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee has published the report of its Inquiry into "Global Britain and the British Overseas Territories: Resetting the relationship." In doing so, the Committee said “The British Overseas Territories total population is only about 250,000 but they include some of the greatest biodiversity in the world.” UKOTCF had given written and oral evidence to the Committee. Apology - update: UKOTCF email and web systems restored

Emails with @ukotcf.org addresses are now functional again, as are all parts of the UKOTCF web-site. We apologise to users for a failure in part of our communications system, now fixed. A serious hardware fault and a lack of backup, at one of our internet service providers, had prevented access to a few parts of our web-site, and also meant that all our @ukotcf.org email addresses could not be accessed for too long. Latest Montserrat conservation video released

UKOTCF has released the latest video in its series on the Adopt a Home for Wildlife initiative, part of its joint conservation programme with Montserrat National Trust. This video gives a background to the initiative and features conservation work on Tim Orton's area of tropical dry forest - a globally rare and threatened ecosystem. Sombrero Island – Anguilla’s first Ramsar Site designated

UKOTCF congratulates Anguilla National Trust and the Government of Anguilla on the designation on 22 May 2018 of Sombrero Island as Anguilla’s first Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention. This follows the listing of Sombrero as a proposed Ramsar Site in 2005 by UKOTCF, with Anguillan colleagues, in its review for UK & UKOT/CD governments of actual and proposed UKOT/CD Ramsar Sites. 3rd UKOT/CD Environment Ministers Council meeting

Ministers & senior officials from UK Overseas Territories (UKOTs) & Crown Dependencies (CDs) travelled to the Isle of Man in February 2018 to discuss the future of the environment in their jurisdictions. This was the 3rd Council of Environment Ministers of UKOTs & CDs and took place in Douglas, on 6th and 7th February 2018. Previous meetings took place in Gibraltar in 2015 and continued in Alderney in 2017. UK Government minister & officials participated on the 2nd day. Read more
