Montserrat is home to lots of amazing animals. Some of them can only be found here.

Animals live in lots of different ways, in all the many environments of the island.

Building homes

There are lots of different ways of building homes. People can use different natural materials to build thier homes, like wood, stone, or mud. Some of the plants that grow in Montserrat are used to build homes, while trees are important for providing shade for our homes.

Some animals build their homes using plants and other materials from nature, just like us.

Click on these homes to find out more about who built them, and what they used.

Help animals make their homes

Look carefully around you, and you will see animals making their homes around our buildings, gardens, and other spaces.

As we develop new buildings and homes around the island, we can help other animals by making space for them too.

There are lots of easy things you can do to help make homes for wildlife:

Bottle Bee
  • Plant native plants to welcome insects and other invertebrates.
  • Leave areas of grass uncut; this helps a range of plants and animals.
  • Plant trees. These provide food and shelter for different animals.
  • Make wood piles or leaf piles; they’re great habitats for invertebrates.
