Montserrat's nature connections

Montserrat is home to many wonderful animals and plants.  Here, you can explore how living things in Montserrat, including us, are all connected.

Hummingbirds need plants to flower so they can feed on their nectar; we need a range of living things for food, shelter, and medicine. Hummingbirds help plants by pollinating them; we can help plants by growing them and spreading their seeds.

Like a rainbow, there is strength and beauty in diversity, and the connections between us. Different species support each other through life, and there’s plenty to share as long as we take care of nature.

We're all connected!

A lot of people think that they’re separate from the rest of nature. But actually, just like hummingbirds, people need other animals and plants to stay happy and healthy.

You might get up and drink some medicinal tea, or eat some fruit for breakfast. Perhaps you have a pet animal that you say hello to. If you walk to school, you might shelter in the shade of trees by the roadside, or hear birds calling.

Noni's day

Do you have a Noni tree in your garden, or near your school? If you watch carefully, you’ll see that lots of animals are connected to it.

This Antillean Crested Hummingbird visits the same Noni tree several times each day. He loves the nectar in its tiny white flowers. Lots of other animals are connected to this Noni too.
