Environmental educational materials

The UKOTCF media and education teams are working to prepare educational resources that teachers can use in their classes. They are progressively being made available here, and can freely be downloaded for use. Users are requested to advise UKOTCF of any use.

Wonderful Water: a course for schools.
These environmental education materials were developed by UKOTCF, the Turks & Caicos Islands (TCI) Department of Education, and TCI teachers. They benefited from the donation of large amounts of UKOTCF volunteer time, and of all the photographs – which, unlike most available curriculum material, were primarily pictures within TCI.
The first 2 sets of materials, Wetland Ecosystems and Mangroves, have recently been revised, and are free here.

A consortium of organisations concerned with marine conservation around Montserrat has published an illustrated book for children on the marine ecosystem dangers posed by litter. Message in a Bottle was launched by Environment Minister Claude Hogan on 14 October 2019. The article has a link to download the booklet. UKOTCF is pleased to have, at the request of the Government of Montserrat, facilitated several years ago the bringing together of partners to initiate the overall programme.

Defra, has asked us to make UKOTs/CDs aware of education packs recently produced on illegal wildlife trade by Tale2Tail and WWF-UK and . At UKOTCF’s suggestion following this request, Defra/WWF have arranged for their packages to be available without the previous complex application procedures. Whilst the examples do not relate directly to UKOTs/CDs and illegal wildlife trade, the general issues are addressed and the materials well made.
